Main Job Responsibilities

  • Commitment to participation in a 2 year apprentice program through South Seattle Community College to become certified as a meat cutter in accordance with Seattle Meat Cutters Apprenticeship program
  • Receives on-the-job instruction and experience necessary to become a qualified journey-level meat cutter
  • Become knowledgeable about the theory and practice of meat cutting in accordance with the Seattle Meat Cutters Apprenticeship Standards 
  • Learns identification of specific cuts and types of meat and fish, stocking, receiving, pricing, grinding, knife skills, proper use of all meat equipment, maintenance of tools, record keeping, ordering, merchandising, department sanitation, inventory and customer service
  • Provides excellent, professional customer service. 
  • Cuts, prepares and handles all meat and seafood in accordance with PCC standards
  • Maintains scales, labels and signage in accordance with regulations and PCC standards 
  • Ensures department sanitation, cleanliness and safety standards are met

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to take direction and apply what is learned
  • Basic cooking or food preparation experience required
  • Must have demonstrated experience of strong knife skills
  • Basic knowledge of meat and seafood preferred, especially with an emphasis on organic and sustainable practices
  • Must meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, repetitive motion and lifting up to 60lbs regularly
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work at multiple locations within the region
  • A current Food Worker Card from the Washington State Department of Health is required
