Overview

The Senior Manager of Operations at PCC is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and comprehensive oversight of programs and procedures across the co-op with an emphasis on ensuring a safe, compliant and operationally sound work environment. This leadership role is a key liaison for Operations in cross-functional efforts and with co-op leadership at all levels to provide support for daily operations, cultivate a proactive safety culture, reduce risk, and promote employee well-being. The position supports all PCC retail locations and the co-op office and is responsible for programs including but not limited to; food safety, occupational health and safety and loss prevention, as well as other aspects of operational excellence. 

 

This position will be instrumental in advancing workplace safety across the organization, ensuring priorities align with the co-op’s long-term goals, strengthening daily operations and compliance, and proactively managing risks, while looking for continuous program improvements. The Senior Manager of Operations will regularly collaborate with all office teams and Store Leadership to support a high level of execution of PCC’s standards, guidelines, and expectations at throughout the organization.

Main Job Responsibilities

Operations Oversight and Accountability 

  • Oversees PCC’s Food Safety Manager, Occupational Safety and Health Manager and Loss Prevention Manager to successfully develop, execute and improve operational policies, procedures and programs. 
  • Supervises the design and implementation of training programs to promote safety awareness and best practices. 
  • Ensures that documentation is established and SOPs are maintained, and other metrics are met as they relate to areas of operational expertise and oversight. 
  • Manages timely escalation of risk and compliance concerns to appropriate levels of leadership. 
  • Establishes and oversees Operational internal controls practices for PCC and other aspects of risk management. 
  • Contributes to and monitors departmental budget performance, analyzes variances, and provides actionable insights to proactively manage spending and initiate corrective actions. 
  • Assists with insurance claim data collection. 

 

Leadership and Collaboration 

  • Provides leadership and guidance to direct reports; Loss Prevention Manager, Food Safety Manager, Occupational Health and Safety Manager as well as other potential future direct reports. 
  • Acts as a resource and office liaison to store staff for various Operations programs and projects. 
  • Leads cross-functional teams to deliver Operations initiatives 
  • Participates in strategic planning for operational programs, helps define measures of success and provides a roadmap for the work. 
  • Contributes to operational planning and providing support for stores as a collaborator on the Operations Planning Team (OPT). 
  • Primary Operations contact on behalf of Stores for R&M 
  • Represents the Stores and Operations in cross-departmental projects. 
  • Supports communication to store staff regarding program or project implementation, policy changes and best practices. 
  • Continuous Improvement and Planning 
  • Develop, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate operational effectiveness. 
  • Leverages data analysis to identify key trends, performance obstacles, and areas for operational improvement. 
  • Drives a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process enhancements, determining solutions, and implementing the necessary changes. 
  • Ensures effective documentation, including SOPs, are developed and maintained for all areas of operational oversight.  
  • Identifies and mitigates potential risks and current issues by analyzing historical data for timely intervention. 

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications & Skills 

  • 10+ years' experience of progressively responsible leadership roles in a multi-unit retail operation, preferably in the retail grocery industries. 
  • 5+ years of project management experience, preferably in retail and grocery industries. 
  • Established history of implementing operational programs that produce strong results. 
  • Experience in developing and resourcing organization-wide programs through influence and initiative. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and executive presentation skills. 
  • Strong organizational, strategic planning and problem-solving skills. 
  • Advanced analytical and strategic thinking capabilities. 
  • Intermediate to Advanced level of computer skills and very strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills. 
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive customer service orientation. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and problem solve with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to anticipate problems and follow through to complete tasks successfully. 
  • Available to work a flexible schedule, and must be willing to work at all store locations and travel to other work-related locations. 
  • Must be able to meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, repetitive motion, and lifting 10 – 40 lbs. regularly.
